bad news / gumprint&painting / 2025 The starting point for this series of prints are rasterised media images that confront us daily with disasters: war, displacement, flooding, forest fires, stranded whales. This “bad news” forms the basis for gum prints that capture the harshness and unconditional nature of the reality depicted. A second layer of pink acrylic paint is applied over this. It obscures, softens, covers up – and allows only a vague glimpse of the original image. The interplay of these two layers creates a fascinating tension: the image of disaster remains present, but is softened, aestheticised, shifted into the realm of the ‘bearable’. The series is a commentary on our collective ability to repress everyday issues. With our ‘rose-tinted glasses,’ we create a distance from what overwhelms us. Instead of intervening, getting involved or taking responsibility, we distance ourselves from the demanding reality – so that it no longer seems quite so uncomfortable. It is in this tension between relentless reality and whitewashing that the series unfolds its effect: as a quiet but powerful statement about perception, responsibility and dealing with the crises of our time.

round of handshakes / 2025 The series examines the ritual of the handshake, the symbol of peace, in which one shows one's empty ‘weapon hand’ – a ritual of agreement, trust and commitment that has been valid since ancient times. At a time when political promises are increasingly being broken and trust in institutions is eroding, this sign is also losing its credibility. The reduced prints are based on media images and work with halftone screening and contrast. The abstract form of the gumprint, supplemented by a caption, refers both to the media reproduction of political images and to the hackneyed visual language of political photography. The hands of politicians appear as mechanical gestures, emptied of all meaning. What once symbolised commitment is now an empty staging. The work is a pictorial reflection on the role of images, rituals and symbols in a society marked by crises of confidence, and at the same time a commentary on the fragility of symbols in an age in which trust in institutions, representation and political communication is eroding.

The series of risographs is based on a visual experiment that superimposes large-format colored ink paintings and graphite drawings of mycelium structures. The works show a dense network of organic forms reminiscent of networks, roots or microscopic worlds. The intense colors of the monochrome risography lend the pictures an almost psychedelic energy, while the filigree lines of the graphite drawings add depth and structure. The superimposition of the two techniques creates a multi-layered impression of growth, movement and liveliness. The risography technique - known for its intense color rendering and slight irregularities - supports the experimental, almost process-like character of the works. The series addresses the invisible and yet essential: the subterranean networks of life as symbolized in the mycelium. It can be read as a poetic reflection on interconnectedness, transformation and the cyclical nature of nature. At the same time, the works open up a space for associations - between microcosm and macrocosm, between nature and abstraction. They invite the viewer to pause for a moment and to engage with the beauty of the inconspicuous.

growth 1 / graphite on paper, 100cmx80cm / 2024 The series of large-format drawings on paper is a visual exploration of the theme of organic growth and the complexity of natural structures. The works are inspired by the ‘mycelium’, the underground network of fungi that symbolises interconnectedness and transformation. Graphite is used to capture growing plant forms and the dynamic, flowing movements of nature in abstract form. The lines and structures speak of constant change and the interaction between the elements of nature. Each work is a metaphor for the connections that exist in natural systems and the interlocking processes that involve both growth and decay. Overall, this series invites us to reflect on the invisible connections and the ceaseless unfolding of life - showing the beauty and complexity of growth, and how everything is interconnected, in the constant process of becoming and decaying.
